Default Finial topped Walking Stick

G'day All,
finally got around to fitting that carved finial (posted ealier in General carving) to a walking stick that I cut from a Silver Birch. I added a wood spirit just below the grip area and a small branch that I intended to remove, became the elfs arm and gives a method of holding the stick on those occasions when you need to use both hands. Appologies for the Flared look of the pics, but the sun was brighter on the white bark than I expected...should have taken the snaps indoors I guess. Painted with acrylic washes and given a couple of coats of B.L.O. then finished off with a couple of coats of Matt clear enamel...My thanks to any who take the time to check this out.
Regards
John

John, that's a nice stick! Very original...the arm is a great touch and carved and painted very well. The Silver Birch certainly is a nice wood, huh?

Nice job, John. That's a perfect use for a fortuitously located branch. You didn't plan that, did ya?

Hi John,

What a terrific idea from beginning to end. First the finial and then the twig arm. Both the elf and wood spirit carving turned out very nicely and you did a great job on the finish too. I always appreciate your work.

Thanks all you nice people for your kind words.

Catbird, appreciate you looking at this stick, and yes I agree, Silver birch is a pleasure to work with.

Cannuck, thanks for taking time to look...I enjoy hearing from you.

Bob, thanks, and NO, the branch wasn't part of the plan, but I will be watching for similar setups in future sticks.

Ron T....as always, I am grateful for your friendly comments, it's great to have you drop in and check out my efforts.

Cliff, thanks for commenting, good to see you are doin' ok, and glad you enjoyed the Kookaburra snaps......
Regards
John

Now if that arm was facing more north you'd have yourself a device to hang your belongings as you walked. Novel idea using the branch that way. Great carvings all around.

Thumbs up Re: Finial topped Walking Stick

Great work Bill, I did not know you have Birch in Australia, I know you have many very amazing woods. I remember when you originally posted that final it looks great, keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
