I can't imagine trying something so intricate. It must have taken you some patients to get that pattern completed. Nicely done.

Depending on the cane size or height time varies, for a typical 32" cane with topper it takes approximately 2 to 3 hrs to layout the pattern and then I spend about 30 hours into the actual carving, a lot depends on type of material, Basswood, Butternut or Maple. The harder the wood the longer it can take.

Is that a take off on the icicles that was in WCI magazine a year or two ago? I saw there where they were using a similar chip carving to make Christmas tree icicles. Or interested how you decided on the design. I have been playing with something similar, so I hope you don't mind me picking your brain a bit.
