As George Bernard Shaw said once "...two peoples, separated by a common language..." Here's a reference for you that may clear it up Walking stick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia or it may muddy the waters even further ![]() Claude |

I make all my Sticks even with my shoulder or the Shoulder of the person that it is for. I read that some where and works for me. Merle

Thanks Guys, Again, there are alot of things to know....my understanding is that there is no set measurement....again, my intent is to make a two piece stick for tourists....we have lots of willow but the spruce has a much easier...straighter shaft to work with. I want to make diamond willow handles and have finished a few prototypes...to work out some kinks. I am just about ready to start making this line of sticks for my retail customers. These discussions have really helped me focus on what to produce. The one piece sticks are not problem...but, hard to find straight with good diamonds and character here. I guess that I will become a Rabologist.(thanks Claude)...never even heard of such....but, working with these sticks is addictive. Simon, if you read this....we don't have rabbits in Alaska and the Arctic hares can be over 40#s!....moose are 7' at the shoulder....just to keep things into perspective..."rabbit slapping" up here can be hazardous.....Ha! |

Bodyman, you wrote,"It is hard to find straight ones". You do know, don't you, that you can straighten most sticks with a heatgun and a clamping device. You have to let it dry before you straighten it. If you straighten a green stick it will revert back to its crooked form. Marvin |

We've been in the handcrafted, made-in-the-USA walking stick business for almost two decades now. In short, most adults could use a 55" walking/hiking stick, but somewhere around 34" to 37" for a cane. Here's a couple of helpful links to our sizing standards: Size a Walking Stick | Brazos Walking Sticks Size a Walking Cane | Brazos Walking Sticks |
