i stoped by a taxadermy shop and bought a set of eyes. They look great but they wre $5 for the pair. I am cheap and was wondering what you were using and where you get them. |

| | Re: what are you using for eyes on your bears Have you ever thought of approaching the Lapidary guys for semi precious stones (cabs) to use as eyes. I have used Tigers eye for my dragons but there are many different stones and colours to choose from to eally suit the subject. Good stuff. Louis |

| | Re: what are you using for eyes on your bears I live in a remote area and have no access to stores only catalogs and for just a couple eyes???
When I need eyes ,small or large I make them from branches, I take the end of the stick shape the eye the way I want it ,get it all done on the stick ,sanding etc. and then cut it off, it is ready to finish when mounted or right on the stick

I dont think i have a steady enough hand to carve them with the saw.Plus i just started in december and just got my first carving bar last week. I got a quarter tip this time. I am having alot of fun doing this. I think i will order some from glassmarbles.com |

| | Re: what are you using for eyes on your bears Hi Rob,
Check out this link Chainsaws, Outdoor Power Equipment and Tree Care Supplies from Bailey's
$6.00 plus shipping is pretty good for that many marbles.
I'm working on a carving supply site that will carry them and other hard to find items, I'll be posting the url as the site develops and is running.
Best of luck,
Tim |

| | Re: what are you using for eyes on your bears THanks Tim,
I have checked out Baileys and I am drooling. I'm so mad at my local supplier as I see that Echo do make a carving bar. Trouble is that Ilive in South Africa and its not too easy getting stuff from overseas as our mickey mouse money is now eight to one US dollar. Works out very very expensive.
Thanks againBob |

| | Re: what are you using for eyes on your bears I have had very good luck with plastic eyes from Meisel Hardware, Turncraft Clocks, Wood-to-Paint . They come in a mustitude of colors and sizes. I do prefer the amber or brown. I think that the black ones look a little plain though would certainly have a use somewhere. The cost is anywhere from $.79 - 1.98. Really affordable...give them a try. J Mykk | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
