Default Wot no bark!

An idea Ive been meaning to try out, Ive seen the bark carvers do this and I had a piece of rotten oak that I burned the back out of and carved a few 'Wonky' woodspirit houses on, good fun!

I then had it sandblasted....

I am thinking it would make a nice candle lantern????

Wow! That sure produced an interesting look. I love seeing these experiments with fire which gives us even more ways to expand upon a carving. Really nice look!

Default Have a look at the backside!

Heres a couple of pix of the back, it was rotten right up the middle so it smouldered for a few hours, the soft wood all burnt out leaving a fantastic natural finish.

Dick: Thanks for the pictures from the rear side of the log which explains a lot about how you got to the final result. Very interesting!

You've given me some ideas for a standing dead maple tree I know about and I believe that the entire center of that tree is mostly hollow. Thanks for opening my eyes to yet one more possibility!

My thoughts exactly Dave!

I think a tall hollow log burnt out would make a magical, mystical story telling chair!

If its big enough you could make two, they would be great seats for a fire pit area???!!!
