Default Well Had to try

Hi all ,

Been a while since I posted anything, but well I was talked into something and well with me you never know what is going to happen.

Anyway this is my second chainsaw carving .. the first was a dragon , which was refered to as a kangaroo stucked between two trees. Jezee but well I decided to do a live tree , It is maple and I call it almost gone. I though Colin would do it , but he wanted to cut cedar .... oh well .

Hope it isn't too bad ...might have to cut the tree down !

Ash

Pretty neat Ash. Like the one eyed look. Almost would think by looking at it, to be a one eyed Frenchman trapper.

Hi Ash!
Ya done good! It is fun isn't it? I just wish I had started chainsaw carving 20 years ago! I'll be doing lots more.
The spirit in the tree is awesome. That eye is very haunting. Don't know what that other eye is doing....
Sounds like you've been very busy. Hope you're enjoying yourself.

Glad to see you also jumping into the daunting world of chainsaw carving! Nice looking spirit and nice job recycling life back into an almost gone maple.

Thanks all ,

Kenny , I almost did a trapper , but so many great mountain men are produced on this board I wanted somthing a bit different .

Thor ,
I like the chainsaw, but was not entirely happy with the finish. It has a tendency to scratch the wood, It can give a lot of char. but can also cause it to be a little rough. But I am enjoying the learning exp.

Dave ,
The tree is alive and well , the reason I called it almost gone, is because the season is almost over an he is almost asleep.

Ron, my friend it is a wood sprit carved into the large maple that we sat under last week . Where the tree had the opening in the side I used it as a seperation of the hair lines. He is in his sleeping cap with a bobed end that come down to his cheek on the left side. His left eye is closed and the right eye is almost . I gave the eye lid a heavy look and the lid is almost over the pupil.

Here is a pic of the tree , with some of my friends enjoying the shade

Garry

Sounds like a great project Garry. Gives me another reason to come back and see everyone. I think this time I will take a bus though.

Ash,
You are a quick "learner", that is a great job.
I am sorry I never made the trip, but it was my grand daughter's 2nd birthday and you know you can't miss that.
I guess the trees around your place will not be safe for a while now.
Keep up the good work.

Bob

Hey Garry,
Nice carving I didnt know you wanted me to carve that tree had I known I would gladly have done it for you. Just curious why just one eye? What Bob doesnt know that the tree's were never safe around your place. For you that dont know I think this is the last tree at Garry's gallery that isnt carved. He has carved faces in the rest only all by hand this is the first with a chainsaw. Still like the kangeroo trying to go between two tree's (Inside joke you had to have been there). Cant wait to do that again a trip I will cherish for the rest of my life. Again thanks for everything my friend and my best to your wonderful family.
Colin
