Default Walnut bench

Here is a custom order bench i did recently for a couple for their 25th wedding anniversary. I really liked how the grain turned out on this one.

Thumbs up Re: Walnut bench

Excellent work Brian, I am a big fan of Walnut was just working some Claro Walnut on the lathe last night. It smells nice but stains everything. Thanks or taking your time to post this.

WOW! Brian the wood is gorgeous! That couple is going to be thrilled. Next year is our 39th anniversary, I need to get my husband in touch with you! Well Done.

Beautiful!!
Two qustions from a novice carver.
1) If you are happy with your chainsaw, who is the manufacturer?
2) Was the walnut green and if so how have you treated it to prevent cracking?

I have myself only been carving a year now. I started out with a cheap poulan saw which jarred your teeth. I have 3 stihl saws that i use now. A ms250 ms180 and an old 021. I love using stihl, but I know there are several good brands out there.

As for the million dollar question about cracking, unless your kiln drying wood it's a crapshoot. I did coat this bench with Cabot's Australian timber oil which is what i use on most of my carvings.

Hi Brian, a very nice bench there! My favourite wood is Walnut for its rich colours & the variation you get but sure aint my favourite to cs carve as it comes off like shrapnel. A great job!
Thanks, Robbin
