| | Using Echo 306? I'd like to know if anyone here is using the Echo 306 and how it's holding up... I have 2 of them with dime tip bars and both of them act like the check valve in the fuel circuit is failing. Neither is 6 months old yet

| | Re: Using Echo 306? Thanks Brian,
Glad to hear yours is running well. I've been buying that Poulan oil [for the gas mix] at Wal-mart because I like the way it measures the oil before you pour. I suppose switching oil could help.... But I'm using that in my Stihl and Poulan saws.
These 306s are so tiny that they're practically a power chisel but the size has it's draw backs. My air cleaner has to be cleaned more than once per day to keep the little Echo running. My other saws RARELY insist on having their air cleaner cleaned.
One day, I'll have only Stihl saws.

| | Re: Using Echo 306? Hey Butch,
How do you like your Poulan saws? I just bought a Poulan Pro 20" saw for blocking I was using my 16" husky but some logs are a bit too big.
The Poulan Pro has a lot of power and not much vibration time will tell if I made the right choice.
Years ago I had a 14" poulan, that saw drove me nuts it never ran right but I have seen a few carvers using the pro. |

I have one which must over 10 years old and it is very dependable. To be honest, it starts easier than my brand new Stihl 361.

Louis here. I take note of what you said previously about the Echo 306 but unfortiunately my bank balance says I must buy the echo. I really would the the stihl carving saw. I would like to know how you fitted the dime bar to the 306 as the agent here in SA seems to know very little. Does it now come as a standard fitting. If you would like to see my work I am on southafricanartists.com under the name of Bob van Wyk

To use the dime tip with a quarter inch chain, you must use a special tool to remove the clutch and replace the sprocket with a hub.
See tool here Bailey's - Clutch Removal Tool for Echo 300 series
Baileys also sells the hub/sprocket, bar and chain.
If you use a quarter tip bar, the 1/4 inch chain is not necessary and you can use the stock sprocket. Then you'd only have to buy the bar and chain....

As I remember, the purge pump on each Echo was acting like it was cycling fuel back and forth rather than drawing out of the tank and sending to the carb'. I still have this problem from time to time.

Geez, I missed that, not my first time responding to an old post either.Oh, like a primer bulb, I gotcha now.My old Poulan had one, never acted up, I somehow managed to strip the oiler gear though, I think a woodchip jammed it up.I don't miss that vibrating wrist wrecker... | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
