Default Tractor fans & Gear heads WIP!

Hi All, Jsut started this one & it's well on it's way! This is for John Deere days coming this summer & will be given away as a prize ( as far as I know so far?) This one is a 330 John Deere, era 1959'-1960' & is supposed to be a two day carving but I like to put as much or at least enough detail to identify what tractor it is & John Deere is supplying the proper paint but I hate to cover up beautiful wood, but, Oh well, this is what they want? I will post 5 pics here today & more to come (Dial up hell ya know!) & then if you are interested there is a link directly to the pages to see much more!

I don't know if they would go for it but what if you thinned the paint a little so it is more of a semi-transparent stain. could try if not it would be prime coat.

Howdy friend,

Good to see you are still working Looks like you have a good one going. Looks like you carved the axle out of the block, when I did mine I added an axle. It worked ok but I wish I would have carved it in (it was a pain). You have a great start. Folks should be real happy with the end result.

Stay warm.

Greg

P.S. My wife got me the book "drawing on the right side of the brain" or was it the left side? (appreciate the reference)

Hi Robbin,

Great work and I can see from the wood why you don't want tp put paint on it. I think you should start at the front with the paint and gradually thin it out and fade to natural as you work towards the seat.
There were some great stylized bird sculptures that had the head painted and faded to the natural wood just as you got to the neck, at the show in Ocean City , Maryland a few years ago.
ST and I started some Cypress knees here yesterday. I will try and upload some pics soon.

Thanks,
Bob
