| | Thanks Greg for coming with your chainsaw When you get to meet someone on this board it is always a pleasure, but when they come and carve with you and show you their work, it's even better.
I had a visit from Georgia Carver, Greg Phillips, and his wife, on Saturday. He brought his carving chainsaw, and was nice enough and patient enough to give me a few hours of instruction on carving a bear. We carved cedar, which it turns out was harder than pine would have been but they sure smelled good, and I am admittedly not finished with mine yet, but that was so much fun! I know I'm hooked on chainsaw carving now.
We also had Mike, another chainsaw carver here who lives nearby, so we had 3 going at once (mine was one of them).
Thanks again Greg for not only coming to my Woodcarvers Gathering, but also for being a very good instructor. I learned enough to apply it to more carvings after I finish this one..
My camera wasn't working, so I hope the pictures that Greg's wife took turned out.

| | Re: Thanks Greg for coming with your chainsaw Thor, the pleasure was all mine. Colin, wish you could have been there as well!
Hay Ya-all, Thor did an amazing job! I am still on vacation but when I get home I will post the pictures. I would point and she would rev up the saw and cut. Thor really did an outstanding job on the bear.
Thank you for hosting my wife and I, it will be the highlight of our trip.
If any of you get a chance to see the "funkey Chicken Art Project" you just have to stop and see it! 100's if not 1000's of pcs of art. Lot's of different artist. Thor's husband paints amazing paintings and Thor's relief carvings are some of the best that I have personally seen.
Thor, when you get the "big" relief carving done please post it. I am certain it is going to be excellent. Again, thank you very much for the visit and for being such a good host!

| | Re: Thanks Greg for coming with your chainsaw Here you go all.... The picture with the 4 of us is as follows: Christina (Thor) is on the right, her friend Mary is next to her, Mike, a fellow carver from down the road is next and I am on the left.
You can see the three bears, Christina did an amazing job for her first bear!

| | Re: Thanks Greg for coming with your chainsaw Thanks for posting the pictures Greg. I hope to spend today out there with my chainsaw working on the she-bear again. I'll post pictures after I'm done with her.
That sure was a fun day.
Lightningbolt, you're welcome to come down from your mountains anytime.
It turns out that chainsaw carving is best done with company.

| | Re: Thanks Greg for coming with your chainsaw Thank's for the invite Thor and you just gotta know that I'd love to come! You're just a few hours away so I won't make excuses and I'll just have to pop in some time. I've been to Amicalola Falls State Park several times hiking the Appalachian Trail but just not recently.
