Default Something a little different for me

Hi Gang,
Just got back from finishing up a commission. This one is for a firefighter with the Toronto Fire Department. The carving was pretty well all chainsaw except for the lettering and numbering. It is in a live Hemlock tree. The tree is really big probably about 15 to 18 inches across and fourty feet high.

We have so few trees....I always cringe when you carve a live tree. I know that if you don't remove the bark all the way around the tree will live. But I can't help feeling sorry for the tree....

But the work is beautiful as always.

Great job and a beautiful shield! Firefighter's have one of the most dangerous jobs around and they're a uniquely bonded brotherhood that deserves great appreciation. Thank's for posting.

Colin,

If you don't mind me asking - how did you do the black lettering? I'm assuming you burned the wood after chiseling it out. It really stands out. Nice carving by the way.

I like it Colin. Your skills certainly aren't limited to wood spirits. Nice to see a commission that let you do something new.

Nice job Colin! Too bad WCI isn't doing another open house this year for their anniversary. I really enjoyed seeing you in action last year.
