| | Ridgway Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous My husband and I would love to go to the upcoming Ridgway Rendevous to watch the carvers in action. Can you tell me what might be the best day or days to attend? It's a day trip for us but we usually like to visit events in the morning and early afternoon.

You will be amazed if you can make it. I go every year not to watch but to carve. I would suggest that if you could stay over night that Friday would be the best day to go down. On friday most of us are finishing up our carvings for the aution on Saturday. The auction starts around noon and goes all afternoon. There are some fabulous buys to be had some of those creations go for next to nothing. Be warned though if you are looking for a hotel in Ridgway forget it everything will be booked solid that week. Last year there were over 200 carvers and on the Saturday there was probably 10,000 people or better in that small town. Hope this helps if you need more information please email me partridge.cb@rogers.com if not I will see you there just look for the crazy Canadian.

We thought maybe we could go to Ridgway a couple of mornings. We're only about fifty miles away.
We are really interested in watching you artists doing your carving.
We're novice carvers, but my husband decided to try chainsaw carving when a big red oak fell down on our property. We don't have the proper equipment, but he is turning out a pretty decent Native American (cigar store type). (No sense starting out easy)
We'll be sure to look you up when we're there.
Shari

| | Re: Ridgway Chainsaw Carving Rendezvous Hi Shari,
I've attended the rendezvous the last two years, and it is surely a one of a kind experience (especially if you guys are new and aspiring carvers!)
Saturday is the day of the auction, and in the last two years Most of the carvings were completed on Thursday and Friday. I would say the best days to attend would be one day early in the week to see where everyone starts out, and then thrusday or friday to check out the completed art works. Ask some carvers what they plan to do, and take a look at their logs etc. Most carvers are very friendly and will be glad to talk and discuss what they're going to carve.
I attended as a first time carver a couple years ago, and had a great time. I'm sure whenever you can go will be inspirational, but i'd reccommend 1 day early, then thurs or fri, and definitely saturday to get a peice to bring home (often at quite a discount!)
PS bring some extra film or batteries for that digital camera! lots of cool stuff, and my camera died on me last year bc of the cold temps

My wife and I may be heading up for the event as well!
