Default new guy

hello all been carving a few years mostly deep relief and in the round like bust and such but a freind got me started chainsaw carving i like it but is much more physicial . any way i went to floridia an my wife decided i should do her a pelican on a pier any idea where i can get a book or pattern? thanks

I realize this is the WCI chainsaw forum but you didn't say if you wanted to chainsaw it or not, if you do take a look on Youtube, there is a demo of a Pelican being chainsaw carved there, you also might get more results to your query if you ask on one of the numerous Chainsaw web sites, just do a Google on Chainsaw Carving.
Other than that the book, Carving Large Birds by Bill Dehos and Patrick Spielman has a pattern for a resting Brown Pelican . Unfortunately I think the book is out of print, but it might be available at one of the old book sites on the internet. You might also try your public library or a local woodcarving club library as well.

Thanks Old Gord it will probley a little of both chainsaw and handtools. I will look on utube for demo thanks agin
