Hi Don & Brian, No it isn't the souix bar on the vid but Sugi has been building bars for Redmax, Samurai & quite a few other companies & yes I have been using Sugi Hara bars & this design for a few years now & they are much better than most I have experience with to date, plus they come pre-dressed from the factory, of which anyone at the Palooza last year knows what I am talking about. These are also the lightest bars on the market with 40mm of Stellite length, extending down the bar.
The bar will sell for $90 CDN & is similar to the ProCarver dimensions previously sold at Baileys with 63 DL.
Thanks, Robbin

Robbin, All,
I looked at the Sioux bar video and thought it looked interesting/useful/durable, but since it's not symmetrical you can't turn it over and mount it, so I believe it would not have the same useful life as the Sugi or others with a symmetrical shape. Is that correct? PS - not trying to hijack the post, just "comparison shopping"!

Hi Schaef, You must turn your head upsidedown to look at things as I never realized this & yes you are correct. I really want to get one of the Souix bars & try it out & what I find interesting is the material. Lots of smoke which leads me to wonder how long the chain actually runs before the links tighten up because smoke is due to heat generated by friction, so I ask?
Thanks, Robbin

Thanks, Robbin, for assuming I start with my head rightside-up. My wife would argue the point!
I'm guessing one could make some interesting cuts with the curved side that would not be possible with a straight taper? Would love to try one out someday.

I had emailed jack about the Sioux bar, the interesting thing is the bar is all the same composition so it can be re-grooved indefinitely, he deliberately beat up the bar on the video to show its toughness, plus I don't think he uses Canola, he probably would have had a lot less smoke if he did.

If it holds up as well as claimed its cost over use of life would be very inexpensive.

Sorry Robbin I don't mean to hijack your thread.

Hi Brian, not a problem. I don't want to sound like I am putting the Soiux bar down either & support anyone attempting to make out lives easier by experimenting & hard work to produce better products for our use. I would definitely be interested in testing one of these bars out especially in the interest of the materials used. I finally wore out my first dime tip Sugi Hara that I purchased almost 5 years ago & has been used continually for the majority of all my carvings. The stellite was dressed down to less than 1/64" & it finally gave up doing the small squirrels on my last carving. This bar design & the quality of the stellite & the idea of keeping the stellite & titanium within the hardness tolerances is what proves to me this is still an awesome carving bar & through working with Sugi Hara in Japan has a more universal mount to accommodate more of the smaller cc. saws on the market. Half of the problem that causes the bar damage is the heat generated causes the chain links themselves to tighten up & in turn causes the majority of the damage to the bars due to it not rotating properly around the radius if the tip. The trick all along is the keep the proper & enough lubrication flowing to the bar tip at all times & keeping the chain sharp to reduce the chances of heat being generated to begin with!
Thanks, Robbin
PS I would like to also know what this bar weighs in at?
