Default Need Illinois chainsaw carver!

I know a military vet (4 or 5 tours in Iraq) who would like a eagle carved from a 5 foot tall stump that's in his front yard. Fellow lives in Taylorville Illinois. Stump left from tree downed during tornado last month.

PM me if interested or curious.

Forgot to mention that he wanted me to carve the eagle, but changed his mind when I told him I carved small - three inches and under. Hee hee!

Thanks

Tom H, I'm at work right now, so I cannot get into a lot of details, but a couple of us carvers here in central Wisconsin do this for some of the local vets for recognition of their time served. We would be glad to do this .

I will put some of the burden on you though. I can carve a perched eagle up here, you can finish it and mount it on his stump down in Illinois with lag screws. In the meantime, you or someone can take the bark off of the tree down to grade level. I can send you some cobra rods to drill in the base of the tree to make the tree stump last longer. You will have to put a finish on both the stump and the carving, preferably Cabots Australian Timber oil natural.

We normally customize/ personalize each carving with their name or unit or dates/times served, or something like "Freedom- thank a Vet". Any background info or requests from the service person will be considered.

There is no charge and we do a very limited amount of these carvings, and there is a follow up to make sure that our work is treated with the respect and appreciation that we try to give our servicemen and servicewomen for their commitment to our country

Transportation will be an issue, but I'm quite sure between us we can find a trucker friend or family member that can make it work.

Keep in mind that if the quality of work is not up to their expectations, there is no damage to their original stump, outside of the lags screw holes, and they can give the carving to another vet or VFW hall in their area and have one of their local carvers take a shot at it. Email me if you are interested, and we can work this out if you want to go this route. Understand that with time constraints he would not get this eagle until mid November. -ken kentrapp@charter.net
