Default My YouTube site- chainsawed Teddy Bear

Althought there's not too much there "yet" I uploaded my first YouTube video about half an hour ago. It's something that I had on file from a Teddy Bear that I carved and sold last summer.

Gene Messer really opened my eyes up to the possibilities of YouTube and carving, so thanks Gene for the inspiration. I'm still not too sure just where I want to take it but at least I've taken the first step and have opened an account. I've still got a lot of work to do on putting more information on the site so now I've got something else competing for my precious time! Oh, well.

Very nice Dave. I think I'll have to look into setting up a page of my own on there. Seems pretty cool. Good luck and happy carving.

I can reccomend a great saw for you if you have not already got one. The Stihl MS180. Super light, smooth, and reliable! Also the newer modles have a quick ajust that makes ajusting the chain a breeze. a 170 will also work, but it has the same weight, and just a tad less HP ....

Thanks for all the comments and show of support as I plunge into yet another unknown. I still don't have any good video editing software other than Windows Movie Maker so that's something that I need to look into, especially when it comes to splicing, joining, and adding the best effects to keep the viewer interested from begining to end. Right now it's just "point & shoot" so I've got a lot of learnin' to do.

Gosh Gene, as of today you've got 187 very informative videos on your site so I look at you as having set the gold standard for us other carvers... and coincidentally right at the time of the Beijing Olympic games! I appreciate your spirit of sharing and definitely something that the world needs more of.

Brian: Yes, I wish that more of us could get involved with posting our carving videos. I think that it's a great way to make yourself much more "personable" and something that makes connecting with each other a little more real and definitely a step above just having a username. The YouTube thing is a LOT easier to set up and do that I had ever imagined so if you've got a camera with a movie mode for shooting movies, then setting up an account is super quick and easy.

What would REALLY be nice is for someone from WCI, such as BobD (with all his spare time ) to set up a YouTube site where they could share videos with their subscribers. I'd love to see a quick flick of an office tour that introduces us to all those people "behind the scenes" that put the magazine together. Something like that would give us something solid to connect with. Thousands of companies (including magazines) already have such sites on YouTube so the longer you delay WCI, the further behind you're gonna get.

Chainsaw Artist: Yes, I have looked into the Stihl 180 and that is most definitely the saw that I want to get. Right now I only seem to be chainsaw carving once a year at the time of our camps annual fundraising auction and I just use the maintenance departments big ole saw so I am somewhat limited when it comes to the finer detail work. One day though, just you wait!

During the next few weeks I'll be working on a lot of carvings that will be auctioned off as part of our camps annual fundraiser in mid-September. Last year was a real confidence builder for me as my carvings brought in over $1,300. for a great cause. I never would have thunk it!

This year I've got about nine 5' pine logs set up to carve for this years auction which I began working on last week. Unfortunately I probably won't have as much stuff to auction this fall since we've had a temporary teacher shortage and much of my carving time has been put into lesson plans and grading.

I have already thrown my tripod into my truck so when I get back to carving during the next few weeks I'll try and put together some sort of video about what I'm doing. It'll probably be a lot of short clips until I learn more about how to splice and join the videos.

I think this is gonna be fun!

Hi there,
Fun bear! Now we have a voice to go with the posts, name, Avitar, and carvings. That was fun.
I have a Stihl MS 170 myself and love it, but still haven't gotten the dime bar for it. I thought the helmet, face shield, and chaps needed to come first. I look like darth vador while I'm carving, but it's worth it.
