Default Just another tree carving

Hi Gang,
I know you probably get bored with all my tree carvings but this one was a real challenge. The carving is in a sugar maple probably 200 years old or pretty close. The lady who owned the house was devestated that the tree had to be taken down as it was there before the house was built. The tree although very healthy was posing a threat to her house and other house's in the neighborhood. So reluctently she had it taken down. I was able to put this tree spirit into the stump although it had two lightening strikes though the tree. If you look closley you can see where they are. Not an easy tree to carve but I persavered and this is the result. Only a couple of commissions to finish up and then off on my trip to WV to meet Ron Davidson
BTW Ron I wont describe the carving here I will tell you all about it next week.
Colin

After two lightening strikes, he deserves a nap. He looks tired.
Another wonderful spirit.

Your third picture is my favorite and best shows the bold look of the woodspirit. I love how the upper forehead hair pull's up and out into the two cut-off branches. Good gosh! Can you just imagine that in your front yard?!? Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

Your huge woodspirit carvings continue to amaze me and NEVER bore me. And you call yourself "retired" HA!

to bad you didn't put him higher on the stump, you could have made hands or mitts out of the limbs......I know, I know, you don't have enough to do!
