Default Just another Owl

But, this one is carved in an old Dutch Elm stump down the street. It just about killed all my chainsaws. I think the Red-Max was as good as any on this job.
I have sanded with the angle grinder and then the flap sander. Then I burnt for detail and done a quick flap sand again. I used 1/2 inch , blue /black marbles to emphasize the eyes a bit more. The stain is one coat of Sikkens, Natural, bit I think I may use the cedar tone on the next coat. I find it gives a nice shine and a rich look to the piece.

That's a nice looking owl! I'm thinking about adding some owls to my annual auction project as I've heard they rank in popularity at about third place lagging only behind bears and eagles??

Thanks for posting.

Nice work Bob none of them will know how hard you worked on that owl. You have to know the stump was on the side of a ravine very hard to stand let alone swing a chainsaw. Also Bob was carving Dutch Elm that had been dead a few years for any of you that have carved it you will know its like cement. Great job I know they are pleased and you should be as well even if your body is telling you not to do it again LOL Good luck on the bear tomorrow.
