Default Horsen's. Denmark

Just thought I would post some of the art created here over last weekend. Bob and I had the opportunity to travel to Sweden to visit with Bert and Eva Davidsson and then traveled with them down to Horsens, Denmark. There was a lot of awesome sculptures created out of Elm and Oak. The theme was Medieval Times.

Bob received first place and people's choice with this sculpture.

Here is Simon O'Rourke's piece after it was placed in Niels and Margaret's Garden. It was a super sculpture and everyone was surprised that it did not place. Uschi did present Simon was the Golden Nail award, for hitting the most nails. You can see the all the black marks in the sculpture caused from the nails.

On a side note...Simon carved himself a helmet from the oak wood, then wore it in the 1/2 hour speed carve! That thing was so heavy, if gave me a head ache only wearing it a minute or so for pictures.

That is Michael (American spelling) Pederson, Niels son in the picture demonstrating the mask.

Niels Ejnar Pederson did a fantastic job with this competition. I know everyone that participated is really hoping that it will become an annual event. Niels never slowed down during the entire event, but still somehow managed to squeeze in time to carve a sculpture as well!

The carvers were provided with trailers to sleep in, three meals a day with a never ending supply of fruit and juice to keep their energy level up. The Boy Scouts did a fantastic job keeping all the wood picked up and serving meals. At night we visited and sang/played instruments around the campfire. It was cold, so Margarit searched her home and brought over loads of extra blankets. Many of us snuggled into them around the fire.

Because we had to fly in and Bob's tools don't work in the UK we had no power tools. Niels and the other carvers were very generous in letting Bob use theirs.
We were also impressed on how Niels family helped out as well. It was very nice to see a family come together and work so hard to help out their father/husband. They were all completely exhausted by the end of the event, but you would have never known it because they kept a positive attitude through it all. Niel's son told us several times how proud he was of his Dad because of all the hard work he had done.
