Default Hole in the head

Hello Everyone, I'm new to posting, but have been reading for quite some time. Great information and help. I have nearly finished a bear and found out that he has a soft spot on the top of his head. It is about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and I'm not sure how deep it goes. Any suggestions for repair or for a long term fix would really be appreciated. This is one of my first bears and have never encountered this before, so Thanks!!!! for any and all responses. If this has already been covered on the forum I apologize. Thanks!!!

I think the first thing that I would try is drilling out the soft spot and plugging it with a piece of waste wood from the same log and carpenters glue. Another thing to consider is using Minwax (or equivalent) wood hardener. It leaves the wood with texture similar to hard plastic.

The drill it out way is how I do it, drill into good wood all the way round and the rot will be gone.

If you are burning or staining the repair will be invisible.

I'd use Bondo automotive filler after I cleaned out the soft spot.
