I have a STIHL 039 gas. and a STIHL E20? electric. Both use the same bar and chain. And unless I am going out into the woods I use my electric. Its lighter , quieter, starts easier , ... than my gas. Its plenty powerfull enough. Now I work on life size pieces and If I have to do some major cross cutting or something then I will use the gas, but I am not afraid to use the electric. Anybody else have this experience with a power electric? |

I have cut a few pieces of basswood to length in my basement with my gas saw and it set the smoke detectors off. ) So, I went and bought myself an electric chain saw and it works great for doing some quick rough out or cutting off a chunk of wood to start working on. I am going to get a smaller blade for it though, might even get me a carving blade. Gene

Oops, might have mislead you there. I just cut off the chunk to the right length so I can work on it with other tools. I have some lengths that are about 6 inch by 8 inch and 10 to 12 feet long, so I have to cut off some chunks now and then. I'm not good enough to carve with a chainsaw. Gene

Electric? ELECTRIC? So that's why my airconditioner slows down after the sun sets. Brian's down in his shop juicing a piece of Basswood!! Knock it off! It's hot around here!

Yes, I use a electric chainsaw and prefer it to a gas saw for most of my carvings! No gas or oil to mix, little noise and they are lighter ! The main drawback to electric is having to drag around a electric cord. I still use my gas saws for the large wood, but will always reach for my electric first ! GeorgiaFred www.georgia-fred.com |
