I have been looking to buy some various bear carving videos and came across a couple that may help me with refineing my skills. I found many on YouTube and one certain video is of a fella named Kris Connors and he has 3 bear carving videos for sale on his web site for $15.00 each. My question is this, Has anyone ever bought this video and if so, how detailed and well made is it? Also, I found a couple of bear carving videos on the Baily's web site and would like info on these bear carving videos as well if anyone has ever seen or used them. Thank You, Brett. |

I cant help you on the videos I started carving with a chainsaw back when all VCR's were top loaders and coast as much as a car. I can tell you this dont fuss too much with your first few bears dont try to get them perfect just enjoy yourself. The bears head is the most important part to get right. Just remember its just a log plenty of others waiting to be carved.

I've watched Kris Conners' carving videos on YouTube and he definitely knows what he's doing. Unlike his, many of the videos available are for the absolute beginner. After bears, I'd recommend Mike McVay's video 7 Easy Pieces. He takes you through the process of carving 7 designs which can each be made using only one tank of gas.

I really like Kris Conners videos. His first job is a teacher and it shows. Unlike all other videos I have seen his does not just show you how the sawdust flys but how to aproach the process and the thinking goes. My opinion is that the only way to learn is to do it. I am always eager to see how others carve and have had the joy of learning directly from some really great carvers... Jim Madsen, Dick Tilly, Chaz Neighbors, Jon Mikenin...sp? and the great teacher Robbin Wincowski...sp? and many others. All you have to do is go to a few events ...even just to watch and talk but better to go and carve. Avoid the compitions and try the sharing events like Ridgway. Ridgway is a MUST attend at least once. That said ask lots of questions and run your saws as much as you can. Angie P told me...Carve from the heart, please yourself first and have fun. |

Mike McVays Seven EZ Pieces inspired me to develop easy patterns for beginner carvings ( FREE at www.chainsawcarve.ca) Chris Connors has taken it to another level with his Youtbe videos. Chris talks about the basics and planning and does a great job! Check out his Moose and see what he does. How to Chainsaw Carve a Moose - YouTube "Plan for Success" |
