Default Eagle on rocks

Stihl working on improving my eagles. Kept messing with this one. Had to make myself stop before I screwed something up.

Hi Bman, always good to step back and take a brake. You'll come back to it with fresh eyes. I'm not a bird carver so I'll not give advice. Only to say stay encouraged you'll make it work.

Thumbs up Re: Eagle on rocks

You really are getting very good with the eagles. Superb! I also know what you mean by trying to find the best quitting point when carving because it's easy to over-do sometimes (and especially with a chainsaw) with less dramatic results.

I was wondering how strong the legs are as their attachment to the base of the log looks somewhat thin. Don't know what could be done to improve the strength at this contact point but it did raise some concern... especially when I saw the kid's bicycle & toys in the background and you know how kids like to physically inspect stuff. Just a curiosity on my part.

I did get the one leg a little thinner than I wanted, but it does seem fairly strong. The wood is maple. I was trying not to leave them too fat and looking like a chicken, but ended up a little thin. I'll have to study some more reference pics.
