Default Chainsaw

I check the board almost everyday. Sorry I haven't posted for a while, still looking for a chainsaw, think I may have located one. If I don't find one before Xmas, guess i'll have to write a letter to Santa. Might have to take a hatchet to one of my logs.

You may want to check out the Redmax 3200. It is not going to be sold in the States anymore. They still have a few left so if your interested I would act fast. They are about $275 US if you have to order them from Japan you are looking at close to $600.
This saw is made only for chainsaw carving.

That's a bit expensive for me. I may not be any good at chainsaw carving so I don't want to spend a lot of money just to cut firewood. I'm trying to buy a good used Stihl to try chainsaw carving or to use to saw logs if i'm no good at carving, i'll have to wait and see. Thanks for the comments.

Another chainsaw that gets somewhat overlooked is Echo. They are a durable saw, and relatively lightweight. I was between the Echo and the Husqvarna when I got my small saw- I went with the Husky, but It cost more. The one I got was the top handled, otherwise called a climbers saw. I dont reccomend this type because the leverage is off and it takes more energy to control it. It may sound silly, but after running a saw for a few hours it becomes a factor. There that the two cents of a fellow carver that thought he would become a chainsaw carver but decided it wasn't the thing for me.

Hi treecutter,

Do you know how much your looking to spend? We have a local guy here in NJ that frequently sells quality used saws...maybe I can help out?

Thanks for the suggestions. I finally found a saw, Stihl MS 180 C. Had it checked out and it runs fine, going to try sawing a log this weekend, i'll let you know what I come up with.

I just looked at the carving gallery and I am amazed at the work shown there including the first chainsaw carvings. I don't believe I can ever achieve the level that you talented folks have reached. I don't like to do things half way, so I might just use some of the wood I have to make some cars like I used to do back in 1975, cut them on a bandsaw and smooth them up. Not what you do here but I feel comfortable with it. I'll check here to see what you have done that's new, would be a shame not to look at your work. Thanks for listening.

So Treecutter, whats the new saw like?

Those little MS180's are a good saw to carve with, do you have a carving bar for it yet?

Its amazing the variety of styles of chainsaw carving around the world, I was lucky enough to travel to a few events this year, America in Feb for the Ridgway Rendezvous' 230+ carvers from around the globe. The Welsh 'Woodfest', St Asaph, UK, Germany, Sep, 30 International carvers, Holland for the first Dutch International Open, 25 I think?

You need to get to Ridgway Feb 2008, heres a link....

Keep it buzzin!
