Default A birthday wizard

A friend asked me to do a wood spirit for his wifes birthday...the subject tree was an old fence row maple that had been hit by lightning and had a split on the left side.....I used my new "Red Max" which is just working out great...here are a few pics...

Really nice ST. I like it. What did you use to preserve the carving?

Very nice. The cedar stain makes it look like it belongs on the tree.

What do you use to darken the eyes and mouth?

Thanks Butch

I use a good quality black highlighter......before I stain....I also use it to lay out a few reference points before starting

Steve that is an excellent tree spirit buddy you have come a long way in a very short time. I am sure that they absolutly loved it. I have my computer up for a few minutes just got it back so I thought I would reply. Look forward to coming out next week maybe we can do a couple of trees. Great job buddy I really like him.

That is a great tree spirit. I am a beginning carver and not a chainsaw carver, to old to start and besides there aren't too many trees here in the desert. However, I have become addicted to the Chainsaw thread. You guys amaze me with what you can do with a chainsaw, I also love the humor and relationships you have with each other.
