Default How are you storing power carving bits?

I did a search on the site and found a lot of information about tool storage. But nothing about storage of power carving bits. ( could be I did the search wrong)
I currently am using pieses of foam and a few wooden blocks with holes drilled into them, both work fine but also leave me wondering if there is a better way.
I know there are a few bit holders sold but would be interesting to see what others are using

Jeff,

My solution was to take an 18" X18" board and drill holes !/4", 1/8', and 3/32" in rows across and down. I then put a piece of 1/4" plywood on the bottom, and a piece of molding around the perimeter of the bit/burr holder to keep anything from rolling out onto the floor. I also put various sized dowels into the very top area about 8" tall to hold the sanding bands and such. It really works quite nicely and saves me from having to hunt for the tools I need. I made a much smaller version that can sit directly onto my work table and hold a smaller selection of frequently used bits/burs for a given task.
I tried the store-bought boxes and they are fine for travel, but a pain for working by comparison. Just having to stop and change the tool is bad enough, but then to have to fumble with opening a box and finding the right was too much distraction for my ADHD brain. LOL
Probably didn't do a great job describing the thing, but if you send me a PM, I'll give you a few pics of it.

L.P.

I have one work bench, where I stand, to do quick cuts with my Dremels. Just to my right, I have mounted a block of wood with holes in the top that holds all the bits for those Dremels.

But for my power carving unit, where I sit, I have a slanted board in front of me that has ply wood divisions that holds all the big, rough cutters.

Nothing fancy.......just handy!

I have the Foredom carousel which works great for me. I have seen the wooden stepped bit holders and they look handy too.
I imagin if you were going to be traveling with your powercarver you could make a denium pouch-like carrier with pockets for each bit/burr.

I stopped off at Hobby Lobby and with a 40% off coupon bought myself a large wooden box. Then I took a piece of scrap 3/4" pine and cut it to fit in the bottom and drilled as many 3/32" and 1/8" holes as I could. This was a while back and I'm still building to my collection. I don't think that the whole project cost me over $3.00.

Great idea Eddy. looks good. When drilling the holes I'd add for a 1/4 shank too.

Lets see the micro bits are in a metal case. The ones for my dremel/black and decker rotary tool are in a foredom carousel,...the big ones are in a bucket with bucket shelves, and a two inch wide round piece of wood that I drilled the holes in...to fit the bits. I have a yoga foam block on my table which holds the ones I am using, until I can put them away.

Now that is what I call nice and neat.
