I am with the group that doesn't carve in the house and has just seen the light on dust protection. I think your choice of Foredom is a good one. I would recommend a reversible model which , in reverse, directs the dust away from you rather than at you. I would also recommend a dial speed control for ease of operation and consistent results. Just a couple of suggestions for your cosideration.

I am not going to second guess you on your situation but as a rule, it's not a good idea....at least in my humble opinion.

By the way, you had asked me to report how I liked my new air cleaner that I bought last January...or was it February. That time period is a blurr because of all the other stuff that was going on with my parents at that same time. Anyhow, I love that thing. We hung it right over my carving station and I run it when ever I carve. It has cut down on the dust that used to settle all over everything.....the real fine stuff "puffs" out of the dust collector bag everytime I turn on the dust collector....now the air cleaner with the heppa filter and the electrostatic filter, pulls all of it in. That was a good investment. I highly recomend them. Mine is a JDS brand but Delta and Grizzly make them too....and Jet.

I too power carve in the house.....but in the basement. I have a power suction unit that I carve over and a good power air cleaner hanging from the ceiling...plus the furnace has a very fine filter. There isn't any of the dust going up stars into our living quarters, and I know how to use my vacuum cleaner when I'm done. Been doing it this way for a lot of years, and will continue.
