I have strung plastic coated clothesline in a grid all over the ceiling of my shop. I attach chains that slide on the line. I bend one end of an S hook around the bale of my flex shaft tool that hooks on the chain. In this way I can hang my flex shaft tool at any point in my shop and slide it back and forth as I'm working to get the best angle. I adjust the height by moving the hook up or down the chain. I use plastic coated line so that the tool doesn't slide on it's own. This way the hanger is completely out of the way and I don't have to worry about it tipping over.

I noticed you posted that elsewhere TC. Excellent Idea. How large are the grid squares? Also, what keeps the line from sagging under the weight of the unit? Do you have multiple support points/lag hooks or something?

I also have a couple of Foredom issues. My SR running on the bench-top speed controller will just stop at times. The fuse is not blown and every thing seems to be OK ... it just will not run either forward or reverse. When I plug it into the foot-controlled speed or directly on-line it might take right off. Or I wait awhile and it goes OK on either controller. So what is the problem? Is it in the SR or the controller? Or is the moon phase wrong?

The other problem I have is with the recip hand piece. The spring clip holding the detent ball came off and the ball went somewhere in my shop. Ever try to find something that small and mobile in a pile of chips and assorted junk? Not to mention under various machines, benches, etc.

I attach the lines to eye hooks in the ceiling about 3' apart by 8' in length. I then add lines between the three foot apart ends. I have also set up a four foot line above my carving easel. Yes the line sags but I pull the line as tight as I can get it when I install it and the sagging doesn't matter. By using plastic coated cable, the chain that the tool is hanging from doesn't slide to the low point that would be created by the sagging. The low point is wherever I set it because the plastic coating grabs the chain and doesn't let it slide unless I want it to. I just take the weight off the tool and tug on the chin and I can very quickly change the position of the tool. I don't use multiple intermediate support points because that would inhibit the ability to slide the tool the full length of the cable.

It sounds like you have a electrical current problem. It is most likely in the switch. Try blowing the dust out of the switch with an air compressor. This sometimes helps. I have also had this problem and I set the tool aside for a while and when I try it a couple of weeks later it works. No logical explanation. Maybe it is the moon phase.

Hey Telecarver, I blew out the motor case taking care to blow around the switch. Did not seem to get much dust out but so far it seems to have helped. No stoppages yet. Thanks for the hint. Now if you will stop by to help find that (CENSORED) detent ball!

Try running a magnet through your dust.

RE: Magnet thru dust ... Been there, done that. The thing to do is order a new replacement. That will make the lost one appear instantly.
