Default Spoons

Made a bunch of spoons to go with some bowls I've turned for Xmass presents, Siberian Elm and boxelder.

This was the only Siberian Elm I had left to make spoons from, boy was that fun.

Traced and cut on 2 sides.

Shaped with belt/disk sander, oscillating spindle sander, kutzal bur and a lot of hand sanding.

Couple clearcoated, rest left to finish. I made these by tracing one of the wife's stainless soup spoons. Not as fancy as the ones I made last year but size wise fit the bowls better and only took about 2 hours each to make versus the 5 hours for the fancy ones.

What do you think?
Thanks ~Mike

It may be Chinese Elm, that's what everyone here calls them. My neighbor cut his tree down this summer and I cut the log sections in half and then cut circles out of them on the bandsaw, rough turned the bowls leaving about 1" thick. Soaked in DNA (denatured alcohol) for 24 hours, wrapped with masking paper and left to dry for 20 to 30 days then finish turned them.

Thanks ~Mike
