To solve my problem, I got one of the full face masks, and picked up one of the pumps that blows air into a bathtub spa, that makes the bubbles, and totally solved my sawdust problem for about $50, compared to $500 for a professional package.

They are the respirators that fireman use. Ebay generally has some listed, and they are an ultravue facepiece, or search respirator, and there are a lot of used ones. Most don't come with a hose, but the hose from your spa works if you either tape it on, or hot glue it to the inlet. They have a three foot hose, that hooks on to the mask, and you may find one of those for around $25. I have one extra new mask if you can't find any listed on Ebay.
Good luck, TOM

There about 10 items listed now from $5 to $445. I use a large, and that gives me some room to fit over glasses if needed. A medium would be a good tight fit for most people.
I forgot to tell you that you need to run your pump thru a router speed control, or some kind of rheostat to adjust the air flow, and those pumps push a lot of air.

Fit is important, when I started carving I just used a pair my husband had...then I got 'my size' ones, big difference! In fact, I wear contact lenses and I have no problem wearing them while I'm rotary carving! The dust doesn't irritate my eyes at all!

Another thing, I don't know if you need them yet, but did you know they make bifocal safety glasses? I love them! Deborah

Di,
I forgot to tell you that if you use the spa pump, there is an inlet on the bottom of the machine. I cut a little patch from a vacuum filter bag to cover that to keep all of the dust out of the air.

This is what I use for Wood turning. Protects all aspects of your face. I use the series 7000 p100 cartridges which I buy in bulk. I also have vapor cartridges when using smelly finishes and don't want ot be bothered by the fumes. The cartridges are very easy to attach and remove making it a very versatile mask.

In a pinch, with the right cartridges, you can use it to survive a nuclear attack.

There is also a set of safety googles that seal up to your face around the edges of the glasses, keeping everything away from your eyes.

I got them from the Dust Bee Gone website, where I also bought my dust mask. They are made to allow you to wear your prescription glasses under them if you like. I didn't care for that so I bought those little "stick on" thingies that turn your sunglasses into bifocal reading glasses, and put them on the safety googles. That worked out just fine. The little stick on bifocals are available online for about $15.
