| | Rotary tools I have a Dremel but it seems to shut off when I put it on high speed. Thinking about replacing it and buying a Dremel with a flex shaft. However, would my money be better spent on something like a Wecheer or Foredom? I'm new to this and I'm just wondering if there is all that much difference. Thanks. |

| | Re: Rotary tools The larger shaft tools such as the Foredom or Weecher, have more power. You can use larger bits in them. The smaller Dremel shaft tool is better for detailing than the larger shaft tools, because of it's higher rpms. But if you can afford them, the micromotors are the best for detailing...even higher rpms and more freedom of movement without that shaft....but no hogging with them or you will burn them up.
If you want a rotary tool for roughing out work and would like the option of using 1/4 bits to do it with, the larger shaft tools are probably your best choice. |

| | Re: Rotary tools Hello :
Seems like your are kind of dissapointed with your dremel tool.
My 6 years experience with the tool, working with it everyday, 8 hours a day might be helpful. My tools are : 2 surgical blades , 2 chisels and two dremel rotary tools. My carvings goes from 4 inches to 3 feet. The problem is not the tool, are the accesories.
If interested on photos and details, reply.
Best regards

| | Re: Rotary tools I would surmise the dremel your currently using is not a flex shaft therefore it is always in close proximity to the dust it creates. I would try blowing it out with compressed air before tossing it. That may cure your high speed overheating problem.Arnie |

Is your Dremel a 300 series model???? If so, send it in to Dremel in Wisconsin, they will replace it, if it's still under warranty. I had a new 300 series Dremel, it had problems with the speed control, I sent it in, and I got a brand new one in return, no charge.....the one I had was made in Mexico....I wonder if that had any thing to do with it??? The new one is GREAT!!!!!!...so far, anyhoo. |

| | Re: Rotary tools hey hey...I can tell you about the Dremel and its lame a** speed setting. Replace the brushes! I am deja vu ing here I think. I know I posted this once! Didn't I?! cheaper than replacing the whole tool. I will be checking my warranty though. If I can send mine in, I just might! What a pain. Wish I had known about other power carving tools when I first started carving. All the money into Dremels, I could have had a really nice one now! Anyhoo, thanx...and check your brushes! if you carve as much as I do with it...I'll bet they are nubbins! you know...like our finger nails! Have a great night!

I ONLY use my Dremels for touch up work.....I have a Mastercarver unit for the heavy wood removal, as the Master Carver has a 1/3 hp motor. It should be obvious that a Dremel is not for any thing heavy duty. Dremel replaced the faulty speed control on my model 300 Dremel under warranty.
