Default Ram 45 MicroMotor problem

Wife was using our Ram 45 Micromotor and it just up and quit driving the burr she was using. Motor seems to be running just fine, but does not drive any burr put in it. Does not run either on wood or just pointed up in the air. If no burr is in it, it will turn. Just like it is not making a connection to the motor itself.

Anyone have any ideas or had a similar problem. Any suggestions are welcome (Other than telling me to buy a new Foredom or NSK)

Thanks

Gene

Gene, have you tried replacing the brushes? First time that happened to me was with my larger rotary system. I tried tried everything I could think of and then thought......maybe it needs new brushes. I'd never replaced brushes in anything before and didn't realize that when they are too worn down the thing simply will not work. I sure hope that's your problem....it's such an easy fix! Good luck!! Mine stopped working once; sent it into the factory (after calling them) and they changed a small plastic coupling inside the housing and mailed it back with an extra coupling for future use. No charge for the service.
Love my Ram 45!

Thanks for the info, I think I will give the company a call and see what they say. I love the 45 also, but it quit when it was needed at a class 2000 miles away from home. (NOT GOOD)......

Really weird, motor appears and sounds to be running, but it might be a coupler between the motor and the burrs. That sounds real logical. Lets hope it is a simple fix.

Pull the brushes and take a look. It will only take a couple of minuets.
If they are good my bet is that there is a coupler between end of motor shaft and chuck that is broken. My motors and shafts have direct connections to the chuck. Nothing to break on any of mine. It would make sense to have a little part that would break so you would not burn out the tool if it got stuck. Look in the little cooling slots if there are any and you should be able to see if the armiture is turning when the power is applyed.

I'm also experiencing a problem with my Ram 35, but replacing the brushes didn't help. The motor in the handset intermittently stops, then restarts after 10 or 15 seconds. It does this even under no load (handpiece lying in its cradle). I've sent the handpiece and controller back to the manufacturer twice, but they say it checks out OK. Has anyone had a similar problem?

Thanks -
Mike

I had a similar problem last year. I tried a different handpiece and that didn't solve the problem. Mailed it back to Ram and they worked on it. Can't remember what they replaced. Got it back and it was still doing it--start and stop with no warning. When I turned it on, I could feel the "click" in the handpiece but it wouldn't turn a burr. I called Ram and talked to Aaron and they ended up replacing the power unit.

I was inconvenienced, but appreciated Ram's dedication to finding the problem--and standing behind it. I'd give them a shot at correcting the problem. Ask for Aaron.
