I don't like using shaft tools reciprocating or rotary for reciprocating I use two Automach when one gets hot I grab the other and if you want to use large carbid bits or burrs up to 2" in diameter you need two hands to control them this is why I use die grinders. If you have never used a professional grade electric die grinder with a 1/4" collet and variable speed and top RPM's at 50,000 with 8 amps of power give one a try. Tools such as Makita, Bosch, Milwaukee, Matabo around $200

Don, could you point me to a couple of threads with samples of your work so I could see what type of carving and how detailed you can get with one of these die grinders?

I am looking at the turbo 300, or the mastercrver pro. Does anyone have any thought about either of these units or have a better idea?
Thanks

The Turbo 300 is for extremely fine detail. The MasterCarver Micro-pro is more versatile and still good for fine detail.

Ramtool, White Cap, Northern Tools, Granger Tools. Tool Source, Fasentnall, RSC, National Rents. You know pro tool guys that sell pro tools to pros. The big box stores wont have the good stuff.

I own a foredom and a High speed carver. My high speed hand piece is from profitable hobbies. If your looking to just add some designs to your turnings I would go with high speed. Profitable hobbies or SCM are both good companies.
