Smile Ornimental Turning

Anyone out there interested in this longago perfected type of decorative wood working? I've been conversing with an expert in England for some months, and this is an interesting art form-albeit a little overwhelming at first, and maybe lastly too. ha ha. It uses a type of revovling, pivoting and pulsating fixture(called an ot lathe) to hold the work, while it is being decorated by tools(similar to dremels) held in what are known as vertical and horizontal frames. Google up the 'rose' engine for a more difinative explanation. If you'd like me to share my info, send me a pm. I have also used the ot technique to make threaded boxes-very satisfying, but I hope I haven't diverged too far from carving. pw

I do have hard copies that I can send you by snail mail. I've just recently started researching this very richly rewarding hobby. You can pm for my email address if you desire more info. Google the rose engine and look at that for a starter. There is quite a large following of this discipline-namely The Society Of Ornimental Turners. I only use a fraction of the technique to make turned boxes with threaded lids. Be glad to send you pictures of these and how its done, how to make the threading apparatus etc.....pw
