Default My Way

I wanted to show how I carve the wing tips on my eagles its a very fast way. I shape them with a chainsaw and grinder then break out the grinder with the saw blade on it. I also wanted you all to see how I carve a log to look like rocks first deep cuts with the chainsaw then a ¼” die grinder with a Saburrtooth bit. This is that cherry eagle I started a few weeks ago I have not been able to work on it until today.

Steve make sure you have the guard in place and in the correct position and wear heavy leather gloves. If the blade gets in a bind and you turn it loose watch your feet.

Yeah it does look like one of those "Total Focused" tools... Thanks for the tips.

Thanks Don. Geez, now I need a die grinder.....
I'm going to the Buzz in the Blue Ridge next weekend, and really "watch" the tools and techniques being used. I can't afford to buy stuff I won't use a lot, so I'm slow at the changes.
Your technique looks scary to me with the small saw blade on the grinder. I was using my grinder with the flappy sand paper, and burned a nice indentation through my glove into my finger yesterday. It never even hurt...sort of cauterized as it tore I guess, but kind of put a damper on the progress for a few minutes. I thought I WAS paying attention.

I like the way you do rocks. I have a drawing that will need some soon...and may put that into use.
Thanks again for the step by steps. I know they take time and effort.
Christina

Christina you will have a great time at that event and see some talanted carvers. I know you will see how they use die grinders. Most dont like my use of saw blades on grinders like I say its my way, not for every one. It is fast!

Don, what kind of saw blade do you use on the angle grinder? I don't think I would try it, just curious! I have an Abortech pro carver(?) with the 3 carbide cutting tips on my angle grinder. I haven't used it to much. I've practiced on tree limbs and roughed out a few spoons with it, it's a 2 handed tool, so I put the limbs in a vice.....Christina, I have a GDO800C makita die grinder and some kutzall burrs, it has 6.5 amps, like a dremel on steroids. It's one of my favorite power tools. Don't get the cheap one, because it only has 2 amps.My dremel 400 has 2 amps for comparison. Buzz in the Blue Ridge sounds like great fun! You are fortunate to be able to attend. I hope you take lots of pictures and post them here. Enjoy your weekend there!
