I'm the carver in Tampa. sorry you got mis-lead, I'm calling in the discussion to Dremel today, they are more professional and will probsbly with their tech's. Maintenance is a must for power tools, lub shafts at least once a year, check brushes for wear and if high end user, replace them yearly and blow the dust from ports and around collick while you have you dust mask on. I just lubed the shaft on my Foredom a few days ago because the handpiece was heating up....too hot to hold. I realized I hadn't lubed the shaft in a while and figured that was the problem. Well, it wasn't. But in a conversation with a friend of mine, who is a Foredom representative, I learned that if you put too much lube on the shaft and it gets down into the handpiece, that will also cause the handpiece to heat up big time. In my case, it seems the bearings in my old #44 handpiece, are probably shot. So am trying to decide whether to send it in to Foredom for new bearings or just buy a new handpiece..... this one is over 15 years old and I've used it hard. Friend suggested that it might be cheaper just to buy a new handpiece. I am assuming that it's not a good idea to get the lube/grease down into a Dremel handpiece either..... |

for what its worth i work part time at a woodworking/carving store and have seen that foredom does not ship the replacement shafts pre lubbed any more, these came pre lubber several months ago. dont know if this is good or bad?
