Hi, Thought I read in a post it was a good idea to lube a Dremel flex shaft like a Foredom shaft is lubricated. Called Dremel, they didn't recommend it. Any comments. Thanks oldmanwood |

How odd..... a good friend of mine used to demo for Dremel at tools shows in the Tampa bay area. He is also one of the finest power carvers I've ever known. He always lubed the shaft and recommended it to me. But that was a few years ago. It could be that something has changed, I guess. Who in Dremel, did you speak to? Was it a service tech? I don't lube any of my shafts as often as I should. It's probably been at least a year since I did any of them. Usually get a wild hair and decide to lube all of them as a project for the day but it's long over due. Time to grow a wild hair again.... |

I forgot to add that Dremel makes a lube for their shaft....because that is what I use on it......when I lube....which is only about once a year and sometimes I forget....

I have an old Dremel flex shaft that I have never lubed, but now I noticed that the handle gets red hot after only 5 minutes of use. I'm sure it needs to be lubricated. Does anyone know I would go about lubricating the shaft and what kind of grease to use aside from the Dremel grease which I have never seen?

| I personally don't believe the shaft will last a long time with out lubrication. I use white lithium grease on mine. Dremel wants to sell you more shafts.

I have used a wrap that some folks call 'wimp wrap' to wrap around the handle. This stuff sticks to its self. But just cover the handle not the shaft part, because if you don't, you won't be able to separate the handle from the shaft. |

I have used graphite and no problems.I clean the shaft with acetone then reapply the graphite. Tony |
