Hovinga: You are very welcome! Truth is I was one of those kids who could spend hours reading a dictionary or encyclopedia, because I found words or subjects unfamiliar tha peaked my curiosity.
The internet makes that much easier, so I google everything.
That contributes credibility to my claim of" I know a little bit about everything and not much about anything".

Hello everyone
I was reading the threads and i have a question, i'm interested in carving oak wood i already have about 3 pieces that my husband cut for me but it looks like it's cracking in the center can i still use it.

Vania: It is risky to put your work into a board thats cracking.
There is the chance the crack could continue ruining your work.
That said it kind of depends on the design your working with?

By that I mean, I have had cracks in cast iron engine blocks.
I have drilled a hole at the end of the crack, and then welded it.
That might work if your project design allowed it?

Great thead...loads of great info too! I carve lots of Live Oak. being in Northern cA, I have gads of various Oak. I think once I get my perfect piece, no checks bugs or rot, it is a joy to carve. Polishes like glass, the smell is so unique! Good luck, i would like to see what ya'll have come up with
