Default Issue resolved: MasterCarver

Can't ask for anything more than this. Tim turned out to be a great guy to work with. Unfortunately, it just took time, but now that time has come to pass. Thank Gawd! Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!

Dale
Your handpiece arrived today by Priority Mail. It is now 100% OK, tested and on it's way back to you by UPS Next Day Air and should be delivered to you tomorrow!

You may wish to know that after it arrived we immediately, inspected it and found the following:

1. The 3/32" adapter collet was installed and apparently was damaged when you forcibly removed the dummy pin.

2. As you mentioned on the phone you had partially disassembled the handpiece. As a result two very small but critical parts (roller guides) were missing.

3. The washers had been removed and put back in the incorrect sequence.

Note: We pre-test all of our handpieces prior to shipment, so all of the above were caused by others after originally leaving our warehouse. Also please do not attempt disassemble the handpiece in the future unless directed to do so by technical support.

Here is what we did:

1. Replaced the 3/32" adapter collet.

2. Installed the "lost" roller guides.

3. Placed the washers in the correct sequence.

4. Reassembled the handpiece.

5. Tested the handpiece (it is 100% OK).

6. Returned the handpiece to you by Next Day Air UPS.
Note: The UPS tracking number is: 1Z3X3 283 13 1000 797 6

7. Initiated a refund for your return shipping charges of $4.95 (this will be mailed separately).

Attached please find an extra copy of the manual and handpiece guide that we include with each unit. Please note that the center turn ring must be turned hard to the "R" position for the collet to open. Please call me toll free on my cell phone (use the special number I provided earlier), to walk you through this procedure when the handpiece arrives.

Although we did not cause the issues with your handpiece we have resolved them at no cost to you. We hope that you enjoy your tool for many years and thank you for purchasing our products.

Best regards,
Timothy

So glad you got this fixed.... but....I like the part where they blame it on you...as if there is no such thing as defective parts on their behalf. I have several Foredoms....one I had problems with...could have been me?....but they were more then helpful, send me parts to fix it myself even! for free!!! and there was no blame and shame. You know these items are not cheap and we are in a major recession, you would think they would be kissing your butt for buying their products but no....I have to really rethink about getting their products.

I was not going to say it because I am jus grateful the ordeal is coming to a close. But you are right, and the dummy pin would not come out as the instructions stated. It was suppose to come in a zip lock bag, not installed in the unit. Yes, I moved the collet ring to R, duh! it would NOT come out. He still is a nice guy though.

Not to start a rant, and sorry if i'm of base.......but I honestly think you were lucky, and should be happy that they are a very nice company. As I have previously stated once you would have mentioned putting pliers to the piece I would of left it there. Even after they went beyond the norm it seems to me that you still think there the bad guys. I guess the saying is correct, "You can't please everyone". Love the ending....He is still a nice guy though. Really!

Just my 2Cents

P.S. Kissing your butt for buying there product????????????

Whatever (is that better?) It wasn't your money, so no worries on your part. The major DIFFERENCE between what I had and what I received back was a click when turned to the R position. The other one did not do that and it was defective. If it was not defective I would have had no problems. I truly beleive if I would not have posted here I would have been SOL. I think Tim was a nice guy, but not necessarily a good business man. Goingbunkers was horrid and created the whole mess by refusing to take the unit back before the pliers. And again, they were pliers to hold on to the dummy pin and not a sawzall to cut the dang thing up in pieces. And no, I do not appreciate your judgementalness and then again I don't know you, Good luck in your endeavors.

By the way, I was honest about using the pliers. I didn't have to do that. Tim told that pulling the pin out did not ruin the piece, but then said it did in the above email. Second, I didn't have to post the email as it was but I beleive in honesty and not to do so would have been a dishonest omission.

Hello,

The function of the dummy pin is to maintain the shape of the collet, it needs to be in the collet any time the unit is not in use, this includes during transit. So yes it should have been in the unit when it arrived at your door.

I feel like Mastercarver is getting some bad press, so I am going to share an experience. I was commissioned to do some repair work of wood carvings on a cruiseboat on the Amazon river. I brought my MC because I thought better to have and not need , than to need and not have. On the second day the boat struck an underwater obsticle and promptly sank, in the largest dirtiest river in the world. The micromotor was rescued by the divers half a day later. I took it back to the hotel and left it to dry. After a couple of days I plugged it in and to my utter amazement it worked and still works to this day.

Taking the handpiece apart voided any obligation they may have had. They were very kind to you.

Regards,
Matt

I absolutely agree that anyone can get a defective part, BUT, after admitting the things that you had done to try and correct the problem I have to agree that you are very lucky to have had this problem resolved in your favor, IMHO.

I am looking to purchase this same unit and actually thought about buying on Ebay. I contacted this same person on ebay that the above person (wisardd1) bought from and I explained [me] being uneasy about buying from her. She understood and let me read the exchange between him and her. Read for yourself and come to your own conclusion.
