Question I'm wondering if any one here.......

......has or knows of any one who has a STEELE 1/3 hp belt/disc sander?

This unit has a one inch by thirty inch belt with a disc on the side.

I ordered one thru Sears a week or so ago, and am wondering if it is a good unit.

Last Spring I ordered one out of Harbor Freight and it was a Dud......big time!!!

DK,

I have one of the little HF 1X30 belt sanders. While it isn't a really high performance heavy duty machine, in my opinion it is worth what I paid for it. Like the vast majority of tools that Harbor Freight sells it is a very cheap imported (China I think) mostly plastic sweatshop produced item. But with that said it will do most of what you'd expect a belt sander to do. Mine is usually set up with a leather belt for blade honing or a coarse sanding belt for blade shaping and either one is effective in those applications. Someday I'll be able to afford a better unit, but till then as long as this one spins a belt I'll use it regularly.

L.P.

I got my new Steele belt/disc sander today, and man oh man it is a power house.

I plugged it in and started it up and deliberatly jammed a piece of half inch wooden dowel in to the belt, it did NOT slow down.

It's like the Delta sander that I had for close to twenty years...That one was really good also. I'm a happy camper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've found them at ACE hardware, or any other good hardware store. But I gotta warn you, they are harder to install, as they are made to fit tight. But for heavens sake DO NOT soak them in water, then they'll shrink and you'll never get it on.
