Not to steal Sharon's thunder on the question Gary poses regarding the use of reciprocating flexshaft tools on small carvings. I'm going to toss a few cents in the pot here and tell you that the recip. hand-pieces are great roughout tools that will move a lot of wood very quickly. Removing waste wood is a proportional thing. As the projects get larger there is a lot more wood to be moved before getting to the detail stage. Fine control is very hard to accomplish with a recip. hand-piece. Like all things there is a trade-off, and I think that you likely would not find this particular tool of much use on smaller carvings.
As always this is opinion, and I'm certainly not the only person around to have one of those.
