Used the Dremel tool that I got as apresent years ago for the first time as a carving tool. Spray painted over some leaves and removed the wood with various bits to get an idea how to carve with a dremel. Not a lot of detail, but for a first time attempt I'm happy with it. Thanks to all on here who have inspired me with their great work.

That turned out great! You can do some nice shaping with a sanding drum too....try leaving a bit of the sleeve sticking out over the drum, allowing it to flex a bit into shallower contours. On large pieces like yours, you might find a small router (laminate trimmer) or larger gouges more effective at removing the backgrounds than a Dremel. The design and the leaves area really good.

Thanks for the tip. I do have a router, so that would sure speed up the process. I'll try that on the other railing this week.

Nice work Carver! Great tool control for just using a Dremel for the first time.

That looks great, neat idea for a deck rail too.
