When I carve with a rotary tool I like to do it outside in the wind, so that the dust is carried away from me. Today, the humidity is 96%, mist and very light drizzle, and high winds. If I sit on the covered porch and carve with the rotary tool, is there any danger of electric shock? Tom H |

Yeah Hal! I do two types of Noah's Arks. One hand carved animals and one power carved. Hand carved for collectors and power carved for kids to play with. This year I have 15 Arks as commissions, that will be for playing with. With 18 pairs of animals per Ark that's 540 animals to carve. Power is the only way I can do that many. And I was a sittin on the porch doin it until the wind blew rain in on me. Tom H |

You will be fine if the power supply and all your tools are grounded, an in line GFCI would give you 100% protection. I bet your kitchen and bathroom outlets have built in GFCI protection plug into them.

Get some sort of Ground Fault Interrupter/GFI. just be on the safe side. For a minute there, I thought you were going to tell me that your parents gave you the rotary tool as a bath toy. |

most time the answer is NO unless you standing in a water puddle and have NO ground on your tools to get shocked by tools or other power equipment you are to be grounded or act like a ground rubber soles most time stopps this a ground fall breaker or switch will cut out all risk of been shocked if the tool is using the current the chance of been shocked is 1-10000'000 most tools are plastic anyway and that doesn't conduct the tool would have to fill completely with water and probably not run before it would shock u most all tools have a ground on the plug ends so there's less risk when used in wet conditions i don't advise standing in the bath tub and carvin or sticking your finger in a light socket while in the tub LOL but the rain in your tolls are harder on them then your chances of getting shocked by them if u leave your tools out on the rain pour rubbing alcohol in them that soaks up water as the alcohol evaporates it takes the water with it then let them dry or blow them out and oil good i learned this after all my tools was in the flood and under 6, ft of water it willn't hurt the motors or switches and alcohol will clean the dirt- dust out of them too
