Default Dust Collection

Hi all,

In Frank Russell's DVD set "Power Carving Fur, Feathers & Fins" he speaks briefly about dust collection. He uses a system with the intake mounted in the table top of his work station.

Does anyone know a source(s) or information for this type of dust collection?

Thanks
Gary

Build your own dust collector for your shop

This is the other one Gary. You use an old Dryer Motor and squirrel cage for this one. I built this one at a cost of about $10.00 I had the hose and the dryer motor already. You can usually find the motor at a used appliance repair shop.
Hope this helps

Thanks Larry,

I was hoping to find info on a manufactured unit.

Hi Gary
I have a desktop dust collector that has 3 fans, varible speed, 2 plug ins on side and you can buy a re-usable filter for it. It is made by Oasis Machinery in California. I think it was $119.00 + about $14.00 shipping. It works great you can see the dust rooster tail towards the filter from the tool. Most of the ones you see have only two fans and cost a lot more.

I bought one from Harbor Freight a few months ago. It's on sale right now for $119. I've been very happy with mine. Here's the link: Portable Dust Collector - 13 Gallon

Brian,

How noisy is the HF dust collector?

Thanks - Neil

Neil,
It is surprisingly quiet. You can easily have a conversation while standing next to it. Much less noise then a shop-vac.

Gary,
That looks like a nice machine. I got the big one because I wanted to be able to use it with my band saw and other wood working equipment in addition to power carving. It does well in both roles.
