Hey everyone! I read the reviews for this item http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00961132000P and some of them say that their power tool just stopped working on them, and others said that it worked brilliantly. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this particular tool, or if there is a more reliable tool similar in make that people prefer? |

How ever, I have three Dremel tools that I use a lot, and I know that the on/off switches are not reliable. |

Many people use Dremels (corded models) and they work fine as general purpose or entry level tools, especially with a flexible shaft attachment. The handpieces are kinda large and bulky, the exhaust fan freezes my hand in the winter, and I have messed up one by accidently pushing in the spindle lock while it was in use. I still can use it with a flex shaft attachment. But I have heard that the battery powered models have problems and are under-powered, althought there is apparently a newer 12v lithium-ion model that might resolve the power issue Dremel 8200 Lithium-ion Cordless / Model: 8200 . If I was going to take a chance on a cordless model, I would try that one. I read the reviews on the one you are looking at........a lady bought it to buff fingernails and it didn't work well? I suspect you would not like it for wood carving.

I have one of these, and I use it quite a bit. Because it is cordless I can take it with me when I do some "waiting" carving. (That's carving in a waiting area, mall or parking lot) The battery isn't bad, lasts long enough to do some minor work, but you don't get much time out of it. It is low on torque, so you must be careful on the type of burrs you use, but I find it great for finish sanding. I have even used carbide burrs (Typhoons) with it and obtained good results, you just need a light touch. Around the shop, I use my Foredom Micro Motor a lot more than I would this, or even my regular size Foredom or Dremel, but it has it's applications. I hope this helps. Bob

I have a Dremel Stylus, works great for light duty, touch ups etc. I have been looking at their new cordless tool, I think it's a 12 volt. Dave |

Small, portable but only for small jobs. Don't expect to run large (over 1/4 inch abrasives, 1/8 burrs, 1/1/16 drills) off it. |

Interestinggggg... I think I'm being talked out of it. But at the same time, I was also looking at this http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...2&blockType=G2 however, I'm worried about how well I'll be able to detail my work. Of course, I have regular knives and carving tools which I can use for detailing, and I'm not really at the level to be worrying about detail over actually carving something recognizable anyways, so I'm thinking about getting this instead. What do you all think of that? XP |
