Default cheap sanding disk

When the belt on my bench top belt sander wears out I don,t throw it away. The edges are sometimes still good enough for me to make small disk sanders by using my one inch round leather punch and punching out a disk on my old wooden stump. I then make a smaller disk using plastic from a used dental flose container with a smaller round leather punch.I then mark the centre on each of these .Next I have a mandrell and take off the screw at the end.Put on the plastic disk .put on the sandpaper disk put the screw into the mandrell .There you go .I haven,t bought small sanding disks for my grinder in years.

I cut mine into strips and use them to sand the cane shafts I turn on the wood lathe.

Klingspor has a bargin box of sanding strips that are cutoffs of mfg. process that they sell cheep. I bought a box 10 years ago and still useing some of it. It is new paper and is fiber backed. Fine quality. Cost is, I think, around 20.00 for the box and shipping is reasonable. Works great on lath work and hand sanding. Various grits.

That's a good idea Bruce! Thanks!
I was wondering where to get Klingspor sandpaper. My dad used it on his wood turnings and there was quite a bit left when he passed away last year. It's some really good sandpaper.
Thanks for the link Charlie!
