I had an absolute thrill today when my author's copy of my newest book arrived in the mail ... The Great Book of Wood Burning! This is my ninth book with Fox Chapel and the most involved work to date. I honestly don't think that I have been this excited about a new book since Mike and I saw my very first book in hardcopy 11 years ago. This really is not some shameless self-promotion - I'm posting because I want to publicly thank Gretchen Bacon, my editor, who truly did as much hard work on this one as I did. Gretchen stuck through thick and thin, fussing and screaming and even a few 'author tantrums' to make this the best yet! We went through three complete editings on this one because Gretchen kept coming up with so many great ideas that really turned out to be 'must adds' and 'have to includes'. I think that because of her there isn't even one possible idea or technique that was missed or accidental left out ... She packed everything into this that we could squeeze! She even created this one in a beautiful new layout that is so easy to follow, read and just browse through. Thanks, Gretchen!!!!! Quite honestly this one should have been titled "The Great Book of Wood Burning by L.S. Irish and G. Bacon .... maybe when we do Wood Burning II ![]() Sorry, Guys! You will have to wait until September when it's released unless you put your order in now for the advanced sales ..... ![]() THANKS GRETCHEN ! Susan |

I didn't know this one was coming !! It's one I do want and I want it NOW. Maybe 2 years ago I put the drawing of a really nice raccoon on a really nice piece of 12" x 16" basswood ----- and then didn't know what to do next. I hope your book will help.

I have a question about the practice board. On page 40 through 51 you give great instructions about the practice board. However, as a new person trying to learn, I'm not clear what tips to use to practice with. On page 42 there is one mention about the sample being created with "a small round tip". Another example on Page 44 you mention making scrubby lines, and all that I can find with regards to the tip is: "Place the tool tip onto the board, and do not lift tip as you work ...." what tip are you using? As a visual learner these are great pictures, but am I missing where to find what tool to use/try? (btw, I have a razortip unit and pens). I realize I can just play with the tips I have, but am curious if I was wanting to replicate the samples. what tips were used. Thanks for any help. |

Susan, congratulations! It is a wonderful book. I have been pouring over it and your Celtic Art book. No wonder you haven't been online much for the past few months, ..... you've been busy! Much to our delight and I am sure our skills, our work will improve with the influence that your books have brought to us. (I know that's not worded right, but you get the idea) Thank you Susan, your skill at teaching and encouraging has been an invaluable resource to many of us, not to mention your technical skills themselves. Your presence and support here is one of the many great things that this board offers, and owes much to it's continued success. We all benefit from your wonderful enthusism and skill. Bob
