| | WCI Summer 2008 - Issue #43 Hello All,
I've received a few Fox sightings, so I guess the issue is making it to your mailboxes. It just mailed to subscribers last week, so you may need to be a little patient, but for those of you who have received the issue, I'd love to know what you think....
Which projects will you add to your to-do list? Any comments on the new "Woodchips" column? Vicki Rhodes continues her series on painting, and we're gearing up to move into painting techniques - are there specific techniques you would like to see her cover?
And to borrow from the critique thread going on here - I'm looking for honest and open feedback. Don't worry about hurting our feelings - we want to know what you really think so we can work on making things better.
On a side note... we had some technical problems with some of the issues... the registration was slightly off and some copies have text that is a bit blurred or the color is off - please send me a private message if you get a "bad" copy - so we can track how many copies were affected, and also, if your issue is really bad, I can send you a replacement copy. |

If I was rating this issue on a scale of 1 to 10, I would probably only give it a 5. The only article that caught my eye was Barry's chip carved chess peices. The Wood Chips page was good. The Turning article was a little artsy. Also, when you place a pattern in a magazine, it would help to place it to the outside of the page so that it can be copied better. When it is near the center it is a little distorted because it is not sitting flat on the scanner. And, I know you have to pay the bills for everything but, an ad for a cuckoo clock from the Bradford exchange? I don't see how that is wood carving related when a good portion of the clock is resin. |

| | Re: WCI Summer 2008 - Issue #43 Thanks Don,
Shannon and I really appreciate your feedback!
I particularly appreciate the feedback on the pattern placement! That's great advice!
As for the ads...well, we don't have a lot of say over that, but I'll pass your sentiments on to those that do.

I was going out the door this morning when I wrote my comment about the latest issue, so I will tell you what I personally look for in your magazine. I like to see new ideas of things to carve that I have not seen before. My personal interests are caracatures and found wood carvings. The first cut series you have been doing was kind of interesting at first but seems to be some what less interesting now. Some of the stories you have like the hobo nickle are interesting as a historical item on carving but I doubt most carvers would try to carve them. The turning article would probably fall in the same category. The issues that you publish at Christmas time seem to me to be the most interesting because there are always plenty of good ideas to carve. I own all but issue 21 & 23 and have been cataloging them on my spread sheet to what articles I find interesting and I have to tell you, not everyone of them gets noted.I know you can't please everyone and not every issue can have everything a person looks for in it. On the whole, I think WCI is the best magazine printed but this issue for me was just kind of ho-hum. That's just my two cents worth. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
