Thumbs up WCI- Spring 2008 issue

Just got my Spring '08 issue of WCI in the mail today and it looks good! Although I haven't yet spent "hours" absorbing all the words, it looks like my favorite articles for this issue are gonna be as follows:
  1. Realistic Skin Tones, by Lora S. Irish: If you've ever been awed by Susan's many beautifully painted carvings on the message board then this 6 page spread about how she obtains those mystical skin tones looks like a real wealth of information. I look forward to studying this one!
  2. Making Free-Form, Custom Wooden Boxes, by Mike Burton: As a rustic woodworker myself, this kind of "free-form" project is right down my alley! Being restricted by a precise (and sometimes complicated) pattern has always given me massive headaches so this method of working wood is both relaxing and very expressive. Nice article!
Those two articles alone would have made the entire issue worth it but I'm also very glad to have the other 25 or so fine "bonus" articles!

Got mine today up here in Toronto - even with another snow storm in progress and another headed here tonight.

I was really excited about the Lora Irish cane topper, but when I went to the web site for the three bonus toppers, there were only two of them there. The tree spirit is missing. Maybe it will appear later.

All in all, as usual, a great magazine.

Got mine today also. Good issue, Really like the Joe Wannamaker BOBD did. Never met the man but heard a lot about him. Very Nicely done BobD.
Susan's article on skin tones was great. But,,,,,,,,, The style isn't one I use, No offence Susan. I have my own style. May not be right for anyone else but one I use and like it . However, Susan did a great very indepth write up on tones and shading and I think it would be great for a newbie who don't have the bad habits of an old carver.
Thanks BobD, the staff and Susan for a nice issue.

BTW BOBD, enjoyed the First Cut articles also.

Deborah (and everyone else).
Susan Irish has given us ALL of the cane topper patterns she has...she wanted me to tell you she is not holding out...we've got everything now!!! Our IT guy, Claudio, has posted all of the patterns NOT in the magazine.
