OK, Gang...it sounds like a bunch of you are getting your magazines and checking them out. PLEASE let us know what you think. Story time...I know some of you are involved in Scouts, and I remember being a crew chief on my second Philmont trek. The rangers there teach you to ask "Is anyone NOT ready" before hitting the trail. The theory was that if everyone is answering yes, you may miss someone who is saying no. So...while we love to hear what you like about the magazine, I'm going to step up and ask directly: What did you not like about the issue? Thanks in advance Bob Duncan Technical Editor |

Bob: I really enjoy the short snippets of some of the known carvers. Looks like most are CCA members. Lots of great carvers out there to choose from. ED |

WOOT just got it I am reading it now, Bob great review on the Guinevere I have been looking for one and your is a very well written article. Carl OK instead of reposting and cluttering up this thread I will just edit this one. To much advertisement! But I am sure you need every bit of it. loving the decoy carving article from Bob Johnson. I was expecting since it was a holiday issue it to be nothing but holiday projects, but I am very happy and pleased to see that was not the case. You included non holiday projects I might have been a littler disappointed if it was nothing but holiday stuff. The canes by Hershel Borders just blew me away those where amazing, I found the gilding article interesting but it just didn't seem to fit for me. One thing I really love is in the back where the calendar of events is posted the bold large font of the date and state that really makes it a lot easier. One feature I would hate to see leave WCI is the teachers corner, it is a really a great one and I look forward to it.

I enjoy the variety of carving styles and knowing each issue will be different. I'm spending more time the past couple of years reading and re-reading the articles, not just skimming and looking at the pictures. I subscribe to a couple of other carving magazines, including a wildfowl magazine, and find them well done but as predictable as the sunrise. I file them as reference material but they don't find a spot in my reading stack. I like to share WCI with my wife, getting her opinion on some of the projects. She goes with me to most of my carving show visits and has a pretty good eye for good work and things that interest me. We're getting to know more of the serious carvers and their work, from Dayton and other Ohio shows, and it neat to see what they're working on each year, in person and in the magazine articles from the shows. I keep my old issues and dig them out several times each year for ideas. I'm carving Fred Wilbur's bookends that were on the cover of WCI in 2006; that's going to be one dog-eared issue by the time I'm done with that project! Mike |

The first cuts series was started with the intention of featuring the CCA members. Readers really seem to like it and we will be opening it up to other carvers. If you have someone you would like to see featured let me know. The spring issue will be the last article to feature CCA members - it's been wonderful getting to know each of them a bit better.

Mike - I'd LOVE to see the bookends when you finish them! I really liked that project - although it's a bit out of my reach!
